Question: Can olive oil be used for skin care purposes?
Answer: Yes, olive oil can be used for skin care purposes. Olive oil has several properties that make it beneficial for the skin. It contains antioxidants, vitamins A and E, and fatty acids, which can help moisturize and nourish the skin. Here are some ways olive oil can be used for skin care:
- Moisturizer: Olive oil can be applied directly to the skin as a natural moisturizer. It can help keep the skin soft and supple.
- Makeup remover: Olive oil can be used as a natural and gentle makeup remover. Simply apply a small amount to a cotton ball or pad and gently wipe away the makeup.
- Face mask: Olive oil can be combined with other natural ingredients to create a hydrating face mask. Mix olive oil with honey or avocado and apply to the face for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off.
- Body scrub: Olive oil can be mixed with salt or sugar to create a natural body scrub. Gently massage the mixture onto damp skin and rinse off with warm water.
- Cuticle oil: Olive oil can be applied to the cuticles to help soften and moisturize them.

Question: Sometimes there is a residue at the bottom of the bottle. What is it?
Answer: If olive oil is not filtered, there are some olive residues that remain after the process of grinding and pressing olives.

Question: It is true that olive oil becomes rancid over time?
Answer: Only due to too long or improper storage. However, rancidity should not be confused with olive oil bitterness. Many varieties of olives (Picual, Cornicabra, Istrian Belica) impart a bitter taste to olive oil, but this is a fresh and natural bitterness.

Question: What is olive oil smoke point? Can I fry or cook with olive oil?
Answer: Usually it is about 160° C, but some olive oils, such as Picual or Arbequina have a smoke point of 190° C or even more. Yes, you can use olive oil for frying or cooking. Here you’ll find more details.

Question: How does the taste of olive oil vary by region?
Answer: The taste of olive oil can vary depending on the region where the olives were grown, the time of harvest, and the variety of olives used. If you compare the taste of olive oils in the Mediterranean regions, you can easily distinguish the taste of Italian oil from Greek or Spanish. Moreover, the taste of olive oil varies even within the same country, as each region has its climate, soil composition, and other parameters.

Question: How not to buy olive oil from the last harvest? Do you label them somehow in your online store? Now is January 2022 so which harvest olive oil can I buy right now?
Answer: Normally we arrange a sale of the old olive oil before the new harvest, so already in November we offer early harvest olive oil. Now, in January 2022, you can buy olive oil made from harvest in November and December 2021.

Question: What is the polyphenol content of your olive oil? What does it depend on?
Answer: The average value of polyphenols in olive oil is 400 - 600 mg per liter. This amount depends on the variety of olives and the olives harvest period. Olive oil made from early harvested olives contains about 20-30% more polyphenols than regular harvest olive oil. The world record holder for the content of polyphenols is the Spanish olive oil Cornicabra which contains up to 750 mg of polyphenols per 1 liter. More about this.

Question: What olive oil is made of?
Answer: Well, it depends… But you can be sure that the olive oil you are buying from us is only made of olives.

Question: Is a glass bottle better for longer olive oil storage? Usually, I buy your 5L cans of Aegean Gold and pour them into a glass bottle for daily use. A 5-liter canister is enough for me for 2 months, so the last 1-2 liters are stored in an open canister for a long time. Isn't it too long?
Answer: In your case, this is not too long, but it is still advisable to pour the olive oil into several hermetically sealed glass bottles at once. It is also very important to put your olive oil in a dark place if you are storing it in glass bottles instead of a metal can.

Question: Is olive oil suitable for my vegan diet?
Answer: Yes, olive oil is suitable for a vegan diet. Olive oil is made from the fruit of the olive tree, which is a plant-based source, and it does not contain any animal products. It's a common cooking ingredient in many vegan recipes and can be used in place of butter or other animal-based oils. Also, some olive oil brands may be certified vegan, which can provide added assurance for those who do not believe that olive oil is made from the fruit of the plant.

Question: What is the best temperature for olive oil storage?
Answer: The ideal temperature for olive oil storage is about 15° C. However you can store it long enough at a temperature up to 20° C. Just remember, if you store olive oil in the kitchen, keep it away from the stove.

Question: What is the best type of olive oil for salads?
Answer: The best type of olive oil for salads depends on personal taste preferences and the type of salad being prepared. However, there is a simple rule that can help you choose the right olive oil: use early harvest olive oils for heavy and rich meals, and use regular harvest olive oils for more light and delicate dishes. Thus, soft and gentle olive oil Aegean Gold made from fully ripe olives is more suitable for dressing a light vegetable salad.

Question: Is it a good idea to store olive oil in the fridge?
Answer: Absolutely not. Storing olive oil in the refrigerator will not help increase the shelf life of the product. In addition, by taking a bottle out of the refrigerator, you will not be able to immediately enjoy the taste and aroma of your olive oil. It will become thick and cloudy and it will take you a couple of hours to bring it back to life.

Question: What Is the difference between extra virgin olive oil and virgin olive oil? Why don’t you have virgin olive oil?
Answer: According to the International Olive Oil Council standards, both virgin and extra virgin olive oils are extracted by using only mechanical methods. That means no heat or solvents are allowed during the olive oil-producing process. The only difference between extra virgin olive oil and virgin olive oil is the acidity level. If the olive oil has an acidity that is less than or equal to 0.8% then it is extra virgin olive oil. Virgin olive oil is acidy between 0,8% and 2,0%. The lower the acidity, the better the taste of olive oil. This is the answer to the second question. That is why we only offer you extra virgin olive oil.

Question: Why has your olive oil product line not changed for so long? Every year the same producers and the same bottles!
Answer: Because “the best is the enemy of the good”. We are lucky with our olive oil producers. Every year they delight us with the same bottles of excellent olive oil. And every time it’s better and better. Of course, we assume that somewhere somebody has made something brilliant. And next year there will be someone else. So what? Your wife is not a fashion model, but she is a thousand times better than any of them, and you know that!

Question: How can I know the "best before" date of olive oil before I order it?
Answer: Just send us an inquiry before buying, and we will respond quickly!

Question: How can I tell if olive oil has gone bad?
Answer: Olive oil can go bad over time, especially if it's not stored properly. Here are some signs that your olive oil may have gone bad:
- Off odor: If your olive oil smells rancid, musty, or moldy, it may have gone bad. Fresh olive oil should have a fruity, grassy, or peppery aroma.
- Off flavor: If your olive oil tastes sour, musty, or metallic, it may have gone bad. Fresh olive oil should have a fruity, slightly bitter flavor with a peppery finish.
- Foul taste or smell after tasting: If you taste your olive oil and it has a bad aftertaste or causes a burning sensation in the back of your throat, it may have gone bad.
To prevent your olive oil from going bad, it's important to store it in a cool, dark place away from heat and light. Also, try to use your olive oil within a few months of opening the bottle, and avoid buying more than you can use within a reasonable time frame.

Question: Doesn't filling in a metal can affect the taste? What is the best packaging for olive oil?
Answer: Metal cans reduce transportation and storage costs, but of course, the best solution in terms of health benefits is glass bottles.

Question: What is the difference between cold-pressed and extra virgin olive oil?
Answer: It's all the same. The only difference is that extra virgin olive oil is the official common name, which means olive oil pressed from carefully selected olives without heating or adding chemicals. As for cold-pressed olive oil, it's just the informal name for the same kind of olive oil.

Question: Is olive oil suitable for people with nut allergies?
Answer: Olive oil is generally considered safe for people with nut allergies, as it is not derived from nuts. Olive oil is made from the fruit of the olive tree and is not a common allergen. However, it's a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider or allergist before adding olive oil to your diet. In some cases, individuals with severe nut allergies may also be sensitive to other foods, such as seeds or legumes, which could cause a reaction.

Question: What is the difference between extra Virgin olive oil and regular olive oil?

Answer: Here are the basic conditions necessary for the production of real extra virgin olive oil (EVOO):

1. EVOO is made from carefully selected olives. Damaged, rotten, overripe or other defective fruits should not be used for EVOO production.
2. EVOO is produced at a temperature no higher than 27° C. Olives should not be heated as this destroys the fruit and deprives the product of all its beneficial properties. EVOO must be produced without adding solvents, dyes, deodorants and other chemicals.
3. The acidity of EVOO should not exceed 0.8%. To achieve this goal, EVOO must be made from olives grown by the olive oil producer because olives begin to oxidize just a few hours after harvesting. It doesn’t matter if it’s a small family olive farm with a couple of dozen trees or a large company with hundreds of hectares of olive groves. The main condition is your own olives, which arrive at the olive mill within a few hours after harvest. Here you can learn more about this.

Although these conditions are the official standard and must be met by every manufacturer, you will never know how the producer sorted the olives, at what temperature the oil was pressed and what was added to it.

However, you can do some research to find out whether the producer grows their own olives or buys them somewhere, sometimes hundreds or even thousands of miles from their olive mill.
